“While I was in the process of getting skin graft surgery to replace the skin I had lost, I was looking at a lot of skin charts. You’d be surprised, but the colors of skin underneath—pinks, purples, whites…are very beautiful.”
“Thinking upon the notion of the many layers of scarring that occurs and of new skin mending…I was struck with the idea of taking what our skin look like within those layers and using it as symbol of hidden emotions and true self inside us all. Since I will be painting on skin itself, I thought it would be beautiful to recreate those layers of skin you do not see. The cells inside those different layers. Layers of masks, pain, scars, and healing.”
